On Being In Love

on July 25, 2011

To give, to take, to have, to hold, to be in love

Passionate compassions, unselfish denial, embracing and facing joy

Highs and lows all the same, never giving up hope

Love enables us to cope

The sweetness of honey and sugar cane can’t compare

The sorrow of regret and defeat wouldn’t dare come near…to love

My heart now overflowing in anticipation

My body and mind anxiously awaiting the participation…of love

The sight, the smell, the taste, the touch, the sound of loving someone

Beyond the gift of endearment of mother and child, the love of one man to one woman

A bond not to be broken nor shattered, but fully inspired by Christ himself

It’s not simply physical, way beyond just a feeling, too deep to even put to words

The sensation of creation of one made from two

A treasure unheard of, almost absurd to the culture of this world

Yet what God has told us that love is to be

I’ll patiently wait my turn so not to be spared of the full measure…of love

The thought of being in love is one that we often get caught up in without even realizing what true love is.  It isn’t the magical fairy tale love in story books nor is it the romantic love of movies and soap operas.  Love can actually be quite messy. It topples and tumbles, crashes and burns, yet true love never turns to ashes.  True love has a foundation that is the one who made love in the first place, God.

I have a desire to love someone, to be loved by someone, but when it happens I desire nothing less than for our love to be based on the love between Christ and his bride.  A perfect model of eternal connection, constant sacrifice, but continual support and encouragement.  I don’t want to fall in love, I want to choose to love and to be chosen to be loved.  I desire a commitment made before the King, a covenant never to be broken, that doesn’t expect perfection, but embraces frailties with nourishment and prayer understanding that our founder is the one who will make our love work because love is bigger than just a man and a woman, it’s a man, a woman and their God.

Genesis 2: 21-24 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
