God's First Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Your Source of Daily Encouragement and Inspiration From God's Word

Back in Action

on June 1, 2011

It’s been a good while since I last posted.  I’m recognizng just how important Christian community is.  I truly miss the fellowship of my peers at Bible college.  The reality is, as Christians, we are few in this world.  Day to day we will be surrounded by many who do not share our beliefs. The challenge is to love and engage these people wholehearted.  Not simply as a cause, but as our duty.  Where the difficulty often comes is in our recharge.  Church on Sunday is great, but we do need Christian peers whom we can call up on the phone or go out with to coffee to reaffrim that we aren’t in this alone.

I am head over heels in love with God, and I love his word.  However, what drives my passion for God is when I can speak about Him with zeal and when I hear other believers share this passion it just fires me up.  I know God is always with me and I need to get in the practice and discipline of seeking Him at all times.  But I am human and my flesh is weak and when I feel like nothing’s going my way and I have no encouragement, I would rather the pleasure of watching American Idol…a quick fix “happiness”, than reading the Word…an eternal joy, that sometimes doesn’t “feel” good.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of three coffee dates with three wonderful Christian women…though I don’t drink coffee.  It was such a huge blessing.  I also had a date with a gentleman that was not a church going Christian which was also a blessing in an entirely different way.  You see he reminded me that I have a duty to fulfill whereas my girlfriends reminded me what I need to do in preparation to fulfill it.

I was challenged to read Christian literature.  One, as an expansion of knowledge, but two, also as a means to increase my desire to be in the Word.  Now at first I wasn’t sure too sure, but I have begun reading The Challenge of Jesus by N.T. Wright, and I must admit it’s working.

So hopefully this means that I will once again be blogging my morning devos on a daily basis.  I love God for who He is, as He loves me for who I am, but He never fails to show it.  It’s time I got back in action.
